2 Trips to the ER!

Skin and chin are clearing up. Yay!

Dallin with IV in his head and bandage on his chin. The eczema is bad on left side of face.
On January 27 Sydney started acting lethargic and had a difficult time breathing. A few days earlier she started having a runny nose, and cough. I just thought she had a cold. I called our pediatrician and the nurse said she had all the signs to head straight to the ER. It was really scary. I was running around the house gathering everything to get in the car, while Sydney was crying because she was struggling to breathe. I said a quick prayer and hoped that everything would be ok. I called Andy and he took the day off of work. I couldn't take Dallin to the hospital and get him exposed to all the diseases there. Andy took Sydney and she had some x-rays, and some other tests done. She was diagnosed with RSV. Her oxygen levels on her own were around 89. She received many breathing treatments to help get her oxygen levels higher. She stayed all day Friday and Saturday. They were able to come home on Saturday night. Well, that night Dallin started having a runny nose and cough. We went to the doctor on Tuesday and he and Baylee also had RSV. They both had a mild case. I was glad, but Dallin was so little. He didn't feel good for several days. Our doctor gave us a nebulizer machine and that worked wonders.

Since Dallin was born he has had a bad case of eczema. His head, face and body have been red, crusty, and chapped. At first I thought it was cradle cap, but nothing was working. I took him to the pediatrician and they said he had eczema. They also drew some blood and did an allergy test. He was allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. I breastfeed him so he was bothered by what I was eating. Dallin's face is the worst and he is always scratching it and making his face bleed. Two weeks after Sydney went to the ER Dallin developed a zit on his chin. It was really red and swollen. I popped it hoping to relieve the pressure and not make it hurt so bad. A few days later I noticed some puss in his chin. I squeezed it and a lot came out. I didn't think anything of it. That night I went to a relief society meeting. I was teaching a class on dating. When I came home I fed him and noticed he had a fever. It was 102.8. I called the hospital and they said to bring him in. When we got to the ER the nurses started trying IV's and drawing blood to run some tests. They took chest x-rays and did the nose swab. The blood test said that his white blood cell count was really high. I was worried it might be meningitis or cancer. After two tries on the IV the nurse got it in his right arm. After an hour the IV became infiltrated and his arm was swollen and blue. They tried a few more times and couldn't get any to work. Dallin was so tried and everytime I got him to sleep the nurses came in to stick him. It was sad. The ER doctor said that because they couldn't get the IV to work they would try an IO which is an IV they do in the bone marrow. They drill it in with a tool that looks like a small gun. It is the size of a small nail. I decided to leave the room because I didn't want to see the doctor do that to Dallin. The doctor also said Dallin needed a spinal tap to rule out meningitis because he wasn't finding a reason for his fever. I felt so bad for him. He was being tortured. The tests came back negative. I was glad, but they still hadn't found a reason for his fever. At 6 am Friday morning I noticed Dallin's chin was even more swollen and red. I squeezed a lot more puss out. While I was looking at his chin on the bed the Holy Ghost whispered to me that that was the reason for his fever. As soon as the nurse came in I told her. She said it could be. The doctor came in and I showed him Dallin's chin. He said it was an abscess and that could be the reason. I was so thankful for the Spirit. If I didn't listen to the Spirit maybe Dallin could have gotten even more sick. The doctor got another room ready and he sedated Dallin and cut his chin open. He drained out all the puss and blood. It was really gross. He packed the incision with a gauze pad to soak up the infection and taped it up. We were sent to the ICU to make sure that was the reason for the infection. When we got there the IO Dallin had in his bone had become infiltrated too and they needed to try for another IV. She tried 3 times and couldn't get it. She asked one of the nurses from the nursery upstairs to see if she could try. She tried 3 times and finally got it in his head the 3rd try. Thank goodness. By then I was crying because Dallin had had enough. Our pediatrician came to the hospital and did some tests. The results said that Dallin had a staph infection. Our pediatrician grew some cultures on the infection to see what anitbiotic would kill it. He started him on the anitbiotic and we stayed until Sunday evening. Dallin has been doing great since we came home. He slept through the night the last two nights. We got some prescription steriod cream for Dallin's eczema and it practically cleared up except for a little on his face. I hope it doesn't come back. He looks like a healthy adorable baby that has soft kissable skin.

We are so grateful that Heavenly Father answered our prayers. We have had a rough couple of weeks, but things are looking up from here. I know that the Savior can't take our suffering away, but can help us through it. My faith and testimony has become stronger and I know that Jesus Christ is aware of our circumstances. I am so grateful for his atonement and for his gospel.

What a stressful few weeks you guys have had! I am so grateful everyone is on the road to recovery now! It sounds like you have a great pediatrician as well, which is always helpful. Tell everyone to stay healthy now :-)!

OH MY GOSH Britney! This is like one of those stories on Lifetime! You poor thing. I can't imagine all of the sleepless worry you've been going through.
I really admire your faith through all of it. You are an incredible mother! Dallin (and of course the girls!) is so lucky to have you. This story is a great example to me of the importance of being worthy of the Spirit. Please let me know if you need a break and I can take the girls! Naomi would love to have a playdate!
